Digging Up Some Fun!

Summertime is all about fun outdoors. My boys love to run and play from sun up to sun down. If it wasn't for their rumbly tummies I would barely see them during the day!

My little guy loves anything yellow, that has an engine and a scooper. He is a huge construction site fan and every time we pass a dump truck or excavator he squeals with excitement and yells "A Dee! A Dee!" We have learned that is his word for Digger - A Dee!

Not too long ago I did a giveaway with Hearthsong and when they approached me for a new review and giveaway I was thrilled. We had just built our little guy a sandbox and I found some super fun toys from their online catalog to help him break in that sandbox!

Of course I had to go big and yellow and diggers! Prior to picking the items from the Hearthsong site I struggled to find something that was affordable, durable and meant for preschoolers. These trucks surpassed all the needs I was looking for! Not to mention they are eco-friendly!

Eco-Trucks - These trucks rock!! They are a great size, not too clunky and not too small. Perfect for little hands to grasp and carry! The trucks are made from reclaimed plastics and recycled pine sawdust. They are bright yellow in color with little brown specs throughout. The plastic is good and sturdy yet light enough for little ones to push around with ease.

The dump truck keeps it's load in place while on the go, yet easily lifts to dump out dirt and rocks. Both the dump truck and the excavator have mechanical levers that easily release and scoop. The levers are big and easy for little hands to grasp.

The day we got our package from Hearthsong it was dark when we got home so I couldn't go to the sandbox immediately like my little guy would have liked. He took one look at the Sand Digger and bounced around all excited asking me to put it together for him. It looks a lot like the big diggers he plays with at the park so he wanted to climb on it right away! I told him to wait until the next day but then he gave me this look:


Gets me every time.

So I put it together for him and he hopped on it right away!

Did I mention he was nude?

I forgot to warn you! We were in the process of getting his pj's on when he gave me the face. It only took me 5 minutes to put the Sand Digger together but in that time frame he ripped his clothes off in excitement or anticipation...I am not sure which one but it was funny.

The Sand Digger is quite sturdy as you can see my little guy gave it the old rump-a-roo balance test:

Later we got to play with all the toys outside.

He was so busy playing he didn't want to cheese it up for the camera. The neighborhood kids got in on the fun and soon the sandbox was filled with kids going "Vrrroooom" and "Beeep Beeeep Beeep" as they played with the trucks and tried to dig a hole to China with the Sand Digger.

The cool thing about the Sand Digger is that it has a reach of over 4 feet and it rotates 360 degrees so he can stay in the seat yet dig several holes!

With mostly boys in the neighborhood the toys have taken a beating but they still look good as new. We have had a lot of rain and the digger is made primarily of metal. It has held up nicely but I would recommend bringing it in during wet and cold weather. The arms stuck just slightly after being out in a few good storms but after a good tug, it worked just fine.

All the sand toys here have provided hour after hour of fun for not just my two younger boys but many of their friends too. The digger is easy to pull off the stand and take to the lake or another home. I am excited to let my little guy try it out in the snow! The trucks are practically indestructable! After a good rinsing, we plan to bring them in once the weather gets cooler.

Each Eco-Truck is only $14.98 and the Sand Digger is a steal at $29.98! All toys are listed for ages 3 and up but my youngest is just about 2 and a half and he can handle them!
