Each Monday they share new recipes not only for dinner but for an entire day's worth of tasty meatless dishes. I'm eyeing the Yellow Squash Chili recipe...it sounds delicious and I love squash! I have not tried it in chili form yet! The only change I would make is to sprinkle a little cheese on top. I must have cheese with my chili. I know cheese comes from cows but it's not technically meat so cheese lovers don't need to be wary of Meatless Monday!
Tofu is one of those foods that makes me cringe.

It's white. It's spongy. It's bean curd. What the heck is a bean curd anyway? Spoiled beans curdle? It is not one of those foods I am itching to get my hands on.
I love asian food. One of my favorite soups is
Hot & Sour Soup.

I recently found a great recipe and it called for tofu. I figured I would go ahead and try it. The recipe is actually a Weight Watchers recipe. When I had my second son I joined WW and lost 23 lbs in just a few months. I kept all the daily recipes in a binder and recently found the Hot & Sour Soup. With the exception of my two youngest kids, my family loved it and I plan to make it regularly! I'm glad I didn't let my uneasiness with tofu get in the way of trying something new, it was fantastic and much cheaper than ordering Chinese food!
Cheapskate Tip of the Day
How to get Permanent Marker out of wood furniture.
Recently we bought a new dining room set. A fancy dark wood countertop dining set.
Isn't it beautiful?
Imagine my horror when I woke up one morning to discover this:
That's green permanent marker courtesy of my 6 year old. My little artist was drawing pictures for Mommy while she was at work and Daddy somehow missed the giant spots on our brand new table. Let's not even ask why my son had a permanent marker in the first place!
After I woke up and discovered this, I had a mini nervous breakdown. Mini-only because all of my kids were watching and I didn't want them filing away Mom's tantrum moves to use later.
Thank God for Google. I found a cheap, easy and effective way to remove this permanent crap off my table.
Take some toothpaste (paste not gel) and dab it over the affected area

Sprinkle baking soda over the toothpaste

Take your finger and gently rub the surface
You see the green foamy stuff in the picture? That is the marker lifting right out!
Imagine my surprise as I took a photo of the final result!

This was before I wiped away the residue left by the baking soda, but it completely removed any signs of the offending marker!
I know someone out there is going to tell me that Magic Eraser works just as well. and I agree. I love Magic Eraser! But I didn't have any handy. Everyone has toothpaste and baking soda!
I spent a lot of money on that dining set. Too bad it's going back. The beautiful surface of the table is all wood veneer. My kids have proven that this was a bad idea. My table is less than 2 months old and already the veneer is chipped in more places I can count! We called the furniture store and complained about the quality. There is light presswood under the veneer which shows every flaw. So we went back to the store last week and picked a light solid wood table. Hopefully this dining set will withstand the force that is my children! We also saved $215.00 on the new set!
Be sure to check back later this afternoon! I am posting a Review and Giveaway!

That is such a wonderful solution! Being that I am totally the same way with my dining room table, I sprung for a large piece of glass for my dining room table (and it helps that my sis-in-law's family owns the shop). Clean up is a breeze!
That's a great tip - bicarb or baking soda has so many uses - I use it to clean my stove top - just put vinegar in a spray bottle and spray it over the sprinkled bicarb - bicarb is a mild abrasive and the two have a oxygenation reaciton - makes easy work! Also use it on corningware and carpets too!
I am so glad I stumbled across your blog! I was looking for fun ones to follow on Blogs of Note, and your title struck me as fun. I love this tip for cleaning permanent marker off, it seems so simple and easy! Can't wait to try it on my kitchen table and coffee table!

Hello, that's another fantastic tip - I'm definitely filing that one away! I love your site btw, I'm newish to blogging and it's sites like yours that I aspire to!
Follow up: Well, I tried the trick, but too much time had elapsed since my daughter had marked our table and the marks are definitely permanent at this point. *sigh* I will, however, file that tip away for future use.
