Tiffiany is a lot like me in the sense that she says what is on her mind and has a great sense of humor. I love reading her blog because she tells it like it is and she is helpful when it comes to explaining her daughter, Meghan's conditions and what it is like to live a day to day life with a child who has autism and cerebral palsy.
Tiffiany also refers to herself as a "professional snot getter" but I'd like to call her Nurse AMAZING. Because that is what she is!
Getting To Know You...Featured Friend Q&A
We just happen to share the same birthday (Jan 2nd) What was your most memorable birthday and why?
I've never had a birthday party in my entire life. Weird, I know, but when your birthday is 8 days after Christmas & your older sibling's is 2 days before, it doesn't get much attention. Not that I am whining cause I am getting to the age where I don't mind forgetting my birthday! LOL The best memory I have was seeing my daughter on the 20 week ultrasound on my birthday & knowing everything was growing okay. That was my 30th birthday.
Your blog is called "Till the Short Bus" I really love your header, it's cute and describes many of the words parents with Special Needs children hear often. Your daughter Meghan has autism. What is the biggest misconception about autism?
Geez, there are a lot of misconceptions about autism. One of the most common things I hear happens to be "Is she like Rainman? What is her thing?". Not all children with ASD are like Rainman (although mine is in a lot of ways) & very few are savants like he was. It is a spectrum disorder & can affect children in so many different ways.
Share a funny story about Meghan.
There are a lot of funny things that she does, even if not intending to be funny. I have a little part on my blog that I recently started called "Literally Autism" where I talk about the funny stuff she does or says. One of the most recent funny things that she has done was I called to order flowers for a sick relative. About ten minutes later, I hear her repeating the entire credit card number over & over. I hope she doesn't figure out how to input it online or I am about to become one of Amazon's best customers (she likes to "shop" online & help mommy put things in the cart & head to the check-out)!
Best Blog Moments...
Road Not Taken Oh Dammit! Now you got me crying... Beautiful. Robert Frost mixed in with Christopher Robin...Tiff, you so eloquently described that this road is not one you would have chosen for yourself but it has made you a better person. The quote from Christopher Robin just yanks on my heartstrings...oh here I go again.
Suffering Through Autism Sucks Week Raw. Real. This isn't just another autistic statistic, this is Meghan. Her little girl. Reading Tiffiany's words, knowing how tough she is on the exterior, this must have been hard to show this side of things. The unpolished side. My son was recently diagnosed with a high functioning autistic spectrum disorder. I can relate a little to her struggles with Meghan but on a much smaller scale. My heart goes out to Tiffiany and all parents who are trying to live day to day with autism.
Get Ready To LOL! A simple exchange in words shows the silly side of Meghan. Too cute! Oh and I did LOL!
