Hmm, a green tip I learned from Martha Stewart: making glass cleaner from vinegar and water. It's a little stinky, but it gets the job done and the bathroom doesn't smell like chemicals afterwards.

Okay, I feel so dumb. I did not realize that laundry detergents were petroleum based. Why yes, I do live in a cave, lol. Anyway, that is the fact I learned while reading at 7th Generations site. And it bothers me, a lot. It seems so wasteful and bad for our planet. I am inspired to learn about better alternatives. Thanks for pointing me over there!

I learned that I should Use chlorine-free dishwasher detergent. The chlorine in conventional detergents is easily vaporized by hot dishwasher water and then released into your home’s air.

Good idea!!

A frugal tip: I use baking soda in my fridge and freezers to absorb odors... when they need to be replaced, I use the baking soda to clean my shower and toilets instead of tossing it out.

5 extra entries:
If you like the water to warm up before you step into the shower like I do,then you probably realize how much water is actually being wasted and circling down the drain. My tip is to keep a 5 gallon bucket in the bathroom and put it under the faucet while the water warms up. Then I just use the water on my plants in my garden. Saves both ways.
Thanks for hosting a fab giveaway :)

I learned that some of the most detrimental environmental effects arising from detergent use are associated with the persistence of detergent ingredients in treated wastewater. There are many chemicals that are not completely removed through the typical wastewater treatment processes.

Michelle said...

My favorite green tip is the unplugging of appliances and chargers. I walk around each morning that I'm home undoing the toaster, my husband's cell phone charger, etc that we don't need to be plugged in. I hadn't known for so long that they're drawing use even when not "really" being used!
